PhilanthroFilms hosts dynamic events that bring together storytelling, education, and real-world opportunity. From hands-on film camps and skill-building workshops to community screenings and industry networking experiences, each event is designed to do more than inspire—it’s built to equip, connect, and create pathways forward.
Our programs serve as a gateway for students, emerging creatives, and community members to gain practical experience, develop meaningful relationships, and step into the world of film and media. Whether picking up a camera for the first time or building industry connections, participants leave with real skills and a clearer path toward creative and professional growth.
At PhilanthroFilms, events aren’t just one-time experiences—they are part of a larger movement to expand access, unlock potential, and use storytelling as a catalyst for economic opportunity and lasting community impact.
PhilanthroFilms FilmLab26 Student

This past July, students from Thomasville City Schools participated in PhilanthroFilms' FilmLab26, gaining hands-on experience in the filmmaking process and helping bring their very own short film, "Old Glory", to life. With the generous support of our sponsors, Filmed in Georgia and Thomasville City Schools, students had the opportunity to explore the world of filmmaking and experience what it takes to create a film from start to finish.
PhilanthroFilms’ inaugural film camp brought together students from across the county in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, creating an immersive, hands-on learning environment for dozens of participants.
Guided by industry professionals, students collaborated to develop and produce an original screenplay—gaining real-world experience in storytelling, filmmaking, and on-set collaboration from concept to completion.
17-year-old Jake Williams, a bright but isolated kid, gets a class assignment to interview an elderly person in the retirement home. But when Jake encounters the cantankerous “Mr. G”, the two discover an unexpected bond in Mr. G's beloved 1952 Buick Special.
The community of Brooks County came together through this film camp to produce The Buick Special, a short film created by local youth with mentorship from industry professionals.
The project gained recognition at the South Georgia Film Festival, earning an award for Excellence in Production Value among hundreds of competing entries.
PhilanthroFilms participated in the Georgia Unscripted Roadshow in Valdosta, joining industry leaders and community members to highlight the growth of Georgia’s film economy and the opportunities emerging across South Georgia.
As part of the event, AmeriCorps VISTA members helped produce a unique live-set experience, later developed into a short film exploring the magic of cinema through a child’s perspective. The Roadshow created meaningful networking opportunities and strengthened connections between local communities and Georgia’s expanding film industry.
“Train the Trainers” bootcamp is designed to equip educators with hands-on film and media production skills they can bring back to their classrooms.

PhilanthroFilms provided production support, crew, and post-production expertise through a film camp experience connected to Repair the Breach, an independent film addressing themes of justice, reconciliation, and healing.
Participants were able to engage in real-world production environments while contributing to a meaningful narrative project. Now released, the film continues to spark important conversations and demonstrates the power of storytelling as both an art form and a tool for impact.
In partnership with the Moultrie Center of the Arts, PhilanthroFilms led a three-day film camp for youth ages 12–18, introducing participants to every stage of the filmmaking process.
Students engaged in hands-on workshops covering camera work, sound, directing, and acting while collaborating as a production team. The camp culminated in the creation of a short film, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their creativity and gain confidence through real-world experience.
PhilanthroFilms hosted a dynamic training experience for aspiring performers, featuring instruction from working industry professionals across film, television, Broadway, and casting.
Led by John Fornof and a team of experienced actors including Ava Paloma, Tim Goins, Steve McCurdy, and Emerson Rados, participants gained practical insight into launching their careers, understanding the industry, and developing the skills needed to succeed as background and on-screen talent.
